I waited in line at the Ferris Wheel as all the colorful flashing lights from all the other rides reflected on other people’s faces. Many teens and children scrambled the Fairgrounds; eager to be the first in line.
I waited for what seemed like an eternity, watching as the sun set over the horizon and darkness took over the fairgrounds, but the colorful lights and the laughs of many kept it alive.
I wasn’t here with anybody nor was I here to have a good time. I came to get some shots for my photography class, so when I sat on the top of the Ferris Wheel, I was sure to get the best shots at the best hour; the colorful lights from all the fair rides, perfectly balanced with the darkness made me overcome with joy at how beautiful the combo was. A tall and muscular figure boarded the Ferris Wheel in front of me, I had not noticed his face due to adjusting the lense on my camera, but he was a very attractive man. I’d be lying to myself saying I never smiled because there was no other girl with him nor hanging on his arm. He was all alone. I was snapped out of my daze as the guy who worked the Ferris Wheel called me out, signaling I was next on the ride.
“Ma’am? You’re next¨” he pointed towards the seat beside the very attractive man. “ince you´re a single rider, you have to pair up.”. He spoke. My cheeks heated up and my heart fluttered a bit at the thought of me sitting next to him. Though, I couldn’t help but feel a bit intimidated at how built and tall he was and how short and frail I was.
His eyes darted my direction, and he studied me intently. I began to feel nervous, and my palms began to sweat. Why was I feeling this way? I´ve never felt this way towards a boy before. He looked me up and down as he scooted over just a bit, so I could take the seat next to him.
Once I sat down, his body tensed up. Wait, was he nervous to?
The guy working the wheel, turned the knob, making the Ferris Wheel start to move.
He looked at me and smiled to himself, before leaning his back against the metal frame of the ferris wheel. “What´s your name?¨ he asked. His voice was deep and very alluring. It seemed to draw you in, which seemed what I was doing.
I suddenly felt small, feeling his eyes sink into every detail of my face. “Sam, I smiled, making eye contact with him for the first time. The tension was so thick, you could cut it with a knife. He must´ve noticed it to because he cleared his throat.
I snapped out of my fantasies, and adjusted the contrast on my camera. He spoke up, ¨So, do you want to go to school for photography?¨
I nodded his direction. ¨i´ve always wanted to go into photography since I was little. I plan to go the college my mother went to.¨
We both looked at each other as the Ferris Wheel ground to a immediate halt. The man working the Ferris Wheel spoke that the ferris wheel was having difficulties, meaning me and an attractive guy where going to be stuck at the top, overlooking the whole park. It was an amazing view. For once, it didn’t seem like a bad trade.
I grew upset and angry at how my camera wasn’t focusing on the beauty of the park, but a small smile grew on my face, my cheeks heating at the beauty of the man sitting beside me. I turned my camera and faced it towards him, putting my eye up to it, noticing a part of his brown locks flopped over his forehead and his hazel eyes. ¨Smile,¨ I said.
I flipped through the pictures until I landed on the one of him. ¨This is awesome¨ I say, applying my filter.
¨I like you Sam; you’re cute¨ he chuckled, making my cheeks turn twelve shades of red.
I looked up, seeing him leave his seat, realizing our or my ride was over. A pit in my stomach formed at how I´d possibly never see him again.
¨Hey! Mystery guy!¨ I stood from my seat waving at him; he turned around smiling. ¨I never got your name.¨
¨It’s Ryan,¨ he called back before nodding and heading his way, until he turned back around. ¨Hey cutie, you left your camera on the seat¨ he laughed before blending with the others in the park.
¨What? No I-¨ I muttered looking around the seats for it.
I looked at the side of the ferris wheel seat seeing the name ¨Ryan¨ carved sloppily along with his phone number below it.
